Dark Rooms 05:05
"dark rooms" ive been living in and out of phase in dark rooms turning in my sleep i cant seem to make a whole night through ooooh your words in my mind repeating crash into me like bricks so i let myself sink til i feel nothing somehow static while nebulous ooooh moved far away to a place i could hide dont want them to see this look in my eyes the people walk by my window through the dark they're too drunk to find their cars
2.
An Island 04:31
"an island" come now you mothers dont you fret your little babies right where you left them days of the summer are wasting away you'd better go get them before it's too late what ever happened? is what they'd say changing directions is what they'd take don't you feel awful? i'm quite okay don't let em get ya just keep running in place there's only one way out there's only one way out the storm is still raging and there's no escape the ports have all flooded the ships washed away there's only one way out there's only one way out
3.
Mary 06:48
"mary" mary i know you're patient but you wont hear a word i say all my machines are broken the workemen have all gone for the day shattered porecelin faith after, meet at my place barren, desolate space forget the pains of these days shadows form a shell of protection light can embrace and obliterate mary i know you'll worry but you won't really give a damn it's too late for false agendas the city is falling to the bay shattered porecelin faith after, meet at my place barren, desolate space forget the pains of these days where once was only conviction just death, and nothing but the sounds of the people burning in their beds

"Schrodinger's Cat" keep the door closed i'm so tired of letting go cue the footsteps down the hall i'm so tired of letting go there isn't much left that hasn't been said done what we've done proclaimed the war won but each battle cost more than the last through this attrition we lost more than we could accept with faith that a purpose would be revealed in the end keep the door closed i'm so tired of letting go cue the footsteps down the hall i'm so tired of letting go burned all the bridges that you needed to find your way home gave up your position now your cover has been blown so the only way is forward as the enemy quickly closes in blindly we march onward uncertain at best
5.
Down With It 04:30
"Down With It" this old home has to crumbling there are too many years on these walls we've got to pack up and get to moving before they fall in and kill us all so many years i have spent here old grand dad said with a strange look in his eye just like the passing days of winter each one slips a little quicker by i built these four walls with my own hands dug the well that will soon be running dry my wife lies in the reeds out beyond the big oak trees and i swore i'd never leave her side this land holds more of me than this body i carry and i cant leave that behind i need a drink strong enough to take me down with it i need a drink strong enough to take me down with it bursting out from the center the limbs of the trees go grasp for sky til they're left nothing but twigs to reach with, never stopped those bluebirds from flying by (no) bursting out from the center the blood it did rush from your arm we tried and we tried, but it wouldn't subside you were right by her side, found you right by her side i need a drink strong enough to take me down with it i need a drink strong enough to take me down with it
6.
Try 03:10
"Try" down on the streets that go nowhere, the kids go out and try to find some money, Down on the corner selling dimes and stealing cars trying to make something whiskey and long drives just try'n to burn a whole through the night sky out in the cornfields sometime i figured i would just die You try to take try to take my pain but you can't you try to take try to take my pain it's useless see there was a time I thought you were a friend to me girl but then you hung me out to dry at the very moment I needed you most you try to take try to take your pain from me now you try to take try to blame your pain on me now I must be on for the times have surely come for my head I've played this game before it only ends in losing it all makes sense when you're lying to yourself it's easy til they kick the door down and you're standing face to face with your choices you try to take try to take your pain from me now you try to take try to blame your pain on me now You try to take try to take my pain but you can't you try to take try to take my pain it's useless
7.
"Distress Flag" long days in the factory, cast beneath tall smokestacks, makin' just enough to pay my debts, and to keep on coming back. i'm still try'n to rise up, and playing my best hand, try'n to catch some luck, and beat the house, even though the deck's been stacked. but the bills just don't stop coming, and the struggle never ends, sick and tired of breakin my back, for the wealth of other men. hey mr. banker man, won't you try to understand? i don't have much money, but i'm doin' the best that i can. hey you pious preacher why don't you leave the judgement to God? there's no such thing as righteous men just children masquerading as the law. so the purchased politician, blithely signs the bill, to sell out the people in exchange, for a small take from the till, now he's restin' easy, another million dollar home, while the poor kids in the slums starve, and writhe on cold and dusty floors. sweet gentrification, segregates it far from you, so you're safe from the consequence, of all the awful things you do. so build those walls up high 'round, your gated community, you've got the illusion of control, but you're a slave just like me. hey mr. banker man, wont you try to understand? i don't have much money, but i'm doin' the best that i can. hey you pious preacher, why don't you leave the judgement to God? there's no such thing as righteous men, just children masquerading as the law. violence is violence, romanticized or not. bloodshed is bloodshed, no matter whose side you're on. so as you're loading up your pistol, to go and seek your kill, take a second to remember, you've just aimed it yourself.

Venus 04:07
"Venus" you are a shining light in cold and stormy seas but i am just a wayward soul kneeling at your feet oh my darling venus wont you take me in will you heal my mangled hands with your ivory skin these ragged bones have come too far to return from where they start but i could die and be reborn in the space inside of your heart oh my sweet flower in your arms is salvation and i will sing for all my days of your beauty and your charm oh my sweet flower in your arms is salvation and i will sing for all my days of your beauty and your charm oh my darling venus wont you take me in will you heal my mangled hands with your ivory skin will you heal my mangled hands with your ivory skin

about

In November 2014 Tim Coughlin Jr. started work with engineer Will Bailey recording his first LP - "Dark Rooms" - from his home studio in Madison, WI. A follow-up to the debut "How?" EP released in early 2014, the album features the sort of introspective, moody folk heard on "How?" but with a more developed, experimental, approach. "Dark Rooms" brings the sound a step forward.
